There aren't that many Filipino vegetable dishes that I find tasty and on that short list, Laing is on the top. Maybe it's the coconut milk, maybe it's the Bagoong ... maybe it's that it's like creamed spinach with a richer and thicker texture. It also works as an easy and cheap (I like cheap) potluck item.

Ingredients

  • 4 Cloves Garlic
  • 1 Large Onion
  • 1 Cup Cooked Chicken, Pork or Beef (Optional)
  • 1 Tablespoon Bagoong
  • 3 Cans Coconut Milk
  • 1 Package Dried Taro Leaves
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon MSG
  • Pepper Flakes

Steps

  1. Saute garlic, ginger and onions
  2. Stir in Taro Leaves, Coconut Milk, Bagoong, Salt and MSG
  3. Add the chicken/pork/beef
  4. Simmer for 30-45 minutes uncovered to thicken.
