There aren't that many Filipino vegetable dishes that I find tasty and on that short list, Laing is on the top. Maybe it's the coconut milk, maybe it's the Bagoong ... maybe it's that it's like creamed spinach with a richer and thicker texture. It also works as an easy and cheap (I like cheap) potluck item.
Ingredients
- 4 Cloves Garlic
- 1 Large Onion
- 1 Cup Cooked Chicken, Pork or Beef (Optional)
- 1 Tablespoon Bagoong
- 3 Cans Coconut Milk
- 1 Package Dried Taro Leaves
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1 Teaspoon MSG
- Pepper Flakes
Steps
- Saute garlic, ginger and onions
- Stir in Taro Leaves, Coconut Milk, Bagoong, Salt and MSG
- Add the chicken/pork/beef
- Simmer for 30-45 minutes uncovered to thicken.
